National and Local Unified Engineering Research Center for Basalt Fiber Production

and Application Technology (short by “Engineering Research Center” below) is a

national innovation platform approved by the national development and reform

commission (NDRC). It was established in November 2011, and was one of the first

batch of national and local unified engineering research center in Jiangsu Province. It is

led by Southeast University, together with the government of Jianye District of Nanjing,

and relevant enterprises throughout the country also participated in its establishment.

It aims at becoming a nationally and even internationally leading basalt fiber key

technology research and development, industrial development and talent gathering

platform, and provides strong support for the leapfrog development of civil engi-

neering, material science and related disciplines as well. It puts forward the design

and performance improvement technology of basalt fiber, which provides a foundation

for the production of basalt fiber with high strength, high temperature resistance and

high alkali resistance, and forms proprietary intellectual property rights. The appli-

cation technology system of basalt fiber production has been established, which

has become an important platform for the research and development and industria-

lization of basalt fiber in our country.
